Ireland Clinches Historic Series Win Against India in T20I
Iyer Acknowledges Ireland's Superior Performance
Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the Indian cricket team, expressed disappointment over the series outcome, commending Ireland for their professionalism and superior grasp of the playing conditions. He noted that Ireland's fielding was exceptional, earning them a well-deserved victory in the series.
Iyer remarked that while India's bowlers executed their strategies effectively, the batting lineup struggled to adapt to the pitch conditions, failing to convert singles into twos, which allowed Ireland to gain the upper hand during crucial moments.
Ireland's Historic Victory
In a remarkable achievement, Ireland secured a narrow one-run victory over the T20I World Cup champions, India, in Belfast on Sunday, thereby winning the two-match series 2-0.
This series win marks a significant milestone for Ireland, as it is their first victory over India in any format. They not only triumphed over the reigning T20 World Champions but also ended India's impressive 16-series winning streak in T20Is, which was previously the longest among full member teams, held by Pakistan at 11 series from 2016 to 2018.
In the decisive match, India, chasing a target of 155 runs, managed to score only 153 for 9. Earlier, Prince Yadav's impressive bowling performance (3 wickets for 22 runs) helped restrict Ireland to 154 for 8.
