Ireland Secures Unforgettable Win

In a remarkable display, Ireland triumphed over T20I World Cup champions India by just one run in Belfast on Sunday, clinching the two-match series 2-0. This victory marks Ireland's first-ever win against India in any format.

The Irish team's success also ended India's impressive streak of 16 consecutive series wins in T20Is.

Match Overview

Entering the second match after a convincing 34-run victory in the first, Ireland set a target of 155 runs, scoring 154/8 despite a notable three-wicket haul from debutant Prince Yadav.

India's Chase Falls Short

As India chased the target, they faced early setbacks with Jai Moondra taking two wickets in his first over, dismissing Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma for ducks. Captain Shreyas Iyer (10) also fell quickly, and a mix-up led to Ishan Kishan's run-out, leaving India at a precarious 39/4 within five overs.

Tilak Varma provided some resistance with a solid 55 off 46 balls, but wickets continued to tumble. Axar Patel (14) and Shivam Dube (20) offered brief support, yet India struggled as the required run rate increased.

Ireland's disciplined bowling, led by Matt Hollard's 3/26 in four overs, kept India in check. Ultimately, India managed only 121/8 after 18 overs, making the chase nearly impossible.

In a tense final over, India needed 20 runs to tie the series. Despite a no-ball and a wide from Ireland's captain Harry Tector, India scored 12 runs off the first four deliveries. However, Harshit Rana's dismissal on the penultimate ball dashed their hopes, and although Prince Yadav hit a six on the last ball, India fell short by one run.

Ireland's Competitive Total

Earlier, India opted to bowl first after winning the toss and managed to restrict Ireland to 154/8 in their 20 overs. Ireland's innings began with early wickets, including opener Tim Tector (5) and Ross Adair (16), leaving them at 44 for 2 at the end of the Powerplay.

Prince Yadav, making his debut, took his first T20I wicket by dismissing Lorcan Tucker (15), reducing Ireland to 48 for 3. Harry Tector then steadied the innings, forming a vital 65-run partnership with Benjamin Calitz (37 off 23 balls).

Despite a brief counterattack from the Irish duo, India regained control with tight bowling. Shivam Dube's two wickets in the 15th over halted Ireland's momentum. Axar Patel also bowled tightly, while Harry Tector anchored the innings with a composed 53 off 47 balls before being dismissed by Prince Yadav in the final over. Yadav finished with impressive figures of 3/22 in four overs, as Ireland managed to surpass the 150-run mark.
