Iran Responds to Trump's Remarks

In a significant reaction to U.S. President Donald Trump's comments, Iran expressed its outrage during the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Iranian Embassy in Armenia took to X (formerly Twitter) to convey a powerful message: "While people may be killed, ideals remain unbroken. You may have taken Ayatollah Khamenei's life, but you merely shattered a perfume bottle, the fragrance of which will linger everywhere." The post further criticized Trump, stating, "You lack the understanding of these matters due to your absence of civilization, history, and honor." This response followed Trump's remarks to Axios, where he mentioned he was monitoring the funeral closely.

Trump's comments, which quickly garnered attention, included a statement about the potential for violence, saying, "They are all there. One shot [and we can take them all out], but we are not going to do that because then we would have nobody to negotiate with." He also noted that he was "shocked" by the large turnout at Khamenei's funeral, expressing disbelief that people would mourn him, suggesting, "Maybe it's fake tears," as he observed the grieving crowd.

Meanwhile, the funeral ceremonies attracted enormous crowds throughout Tehran. According to Iran's Health Ministry, as reported by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, approximately 15 million people were expected to participate in the farewell events over the course of two to three days. Temporary medical facilities were set up near the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla to accommodate the large number of attendees. Those being honored included Ali Khamenei, his son-in-law, his eldest daughter, a 14-month-old granddaughter, and the wife of Iran's new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

During the ceremonies, large groups dressed in black chanted slogans such as "Death to America" and "Death to Israel," with some mourners displaying signs calling for Trump's assassination. Others shouted, "Our word is one. Revenge! Revenge!" as Iranian officials pledged to pursue justice for the U.S.-Israeli airstrike that resulted in Khamenei's death.
