Iran's Stance on US Military Actions Amid Ongoing Tensions
Iran's Response to US Military Strategy
Tehran: In light of US President Donald Trump's recent announcement to temporarily halt military actions against Iranian energy facilities, Iranian officials have made it clear that hostilities will persist until all sanctions are lifted and reparations are made by the United States. Mohsen Rezaei, a military advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, stated on March 24 that, 'The conflict will continue until Iran receives compensation for all damages and sanctions are removed.' He emphasized the need for an international assurance that the US will refrain from meddling in Iran's domestic matters.
Trump's Temporary Halt on Military Actions: Earlier on the same day, President Trump indicated a pause in military operations, declaring that the US would delay 'any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure' for five days. This decision is contingent on the progress of ongoing negotiations aimed at achieving a comprehensive resolution to the conflict. Trump expressed optimism about the productive discussions that have taken place over the past two days, stating, 'I am pleased to report that the United States and Iran have engaged in very constructive conversations regarding a total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East.'
US-Iran Diplomatic Efforts: There are reports suggesting that peace negotiations between the US and Iran might occur in Islamabad, Pakistan. However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified that these discussions are not yet finalized. She stated, 'These are sensitive diplomatic discussions, and the US will not negotiate through the press. This situation is fluid, and any speculation about meetings should not be considered final until officially announced by the White House.'
The tensions in the Middle East escalated on February 28, following airstrikes by the US and Israel that resulted in the deaths of several high-ranking Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran began targeting US military installations in the Gulf and cities in Israel. Additionally, there are indications that the US is preparing for a potential ground invasion of Iran's Kharg Island.
