Iranian Media Claims Ayatollah Khamenei's Wife is Alive Amidst Conflicting Reports
Confusion Surrounds the Status of Ayatollah Khamenei's Wife
Iranian state media has reported that Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the spouse of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is alive, contradicting earlier claims regarding her death. This assertion was made by Fars News, which is linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The outlet noted that there had been conflicting information about her status following the alleged assassination of Khamenei and other Iranian leaders in a joint operation by the US and Israel on February 28.
This announcement comes in the wake of remarks from Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who has recently taken over as Iran's Supreme Leader. In his initial statements, he issued a stern warning to the United States, asserting that the deaths of martyrs would not be forgotten. Although Mojtaba has not yet made a public appearance or delivered a televised address, his comments were disseminated by the government, where he cautioned the US to withdraw its military bases from the Middle East or face consequences.
Mojtaba Khamenei also emphasized the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed to exert pressure on the US, highlighting its impact on global crude oil and natural gas supplies. Additionally, it has been reported that he has recently joined the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, on March 12. However, his account is still awaiting verification. According to Al Jazeera, Khamenei's presence on X includes tributes to his father, Ali Khamenei, while notably omitting any mention of his mother's status, which has led to further speculation about her being alive.
