The final funeral procession and burial of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Mashhad, Iran, has been postponed. This decision follows the extended funeral events in Iraq, which saw an overwhelming turnout of mourners, as reported by Press TV. The burial is now scheduled for today, with the main procession originally set to commence early Thursday morning. However, due to the significant attendance in the sacred Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala, organizers have rescheduled the event to 2 PM local time. Reports indicate that Wednesday's processions in Iraq attracted an unprecedented number of participants, including officials, resistance leaders, and tribal representatives, with estimates suggesting at least four million attendees in Karbala alone.

Expressions of Gratitude from Iran

On Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi expressed gratitude towards the Iraqi government, citizens, and religious leaders for their contributions to Khamenei's funeral ceremonies. He emphasized the strong ties that bind the two nations. In a message shared on X, Araghchi stated, "We extend our heartfelt thanks to the brotherly Iraq—its government, people, and religious authorities—for their warm hospitality and dignified farewell in honoring our martyred Imam with widespread public participation." He further noted that the relationship between Iran and Iraq goes beyond mere geographical proximity, rooted in a shared history, values, and destiny. "Thank you to the Iraq of generosity and authenticity for this loyalty," he added.
