Iran Opens Shipping Lanes in Hormuz Strait Amid Ceasefire
Iran's Foreign Minister has declared that all commercial shipping routes through the Hormuz Strait are now fully operational for the duration of the ceasefire. This announcement follows previous tensions with the United States, which had threatened a naval blockade in response to Iran's actions earlier this year. The shipping will adhere to the designated routes established by Iran's maritime authorities, ensuring safe passage for vessels in one of the world's busiest oil shipping corridors. This development is crucial for global trade and energy supplies.

Iran's Announcement on Shipping in Hormuz Strait
On Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi announced that the passage for all commercial vessels through the Hormuz Strait has been fully opened for the remainder of the ceasefire period. He also clarified that the ships will navigate through the previously designated route, as announced by Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization. In a statement on X, he mentioned that in light of the ceasefire in Lebanon, the route for all commercial ships passing through the Hormuz Strait will remain open for the duration of the ceasefire; this will follow the established path previously declared by the Islamic Republic of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization.
Previously, the United States had indicated plans to initiate a naval blockade in the Hormuz Strait. This decision came after Iran effectively closed one of the world's busiest oil shipping routes for weeks in response to attacks from the U.S. and Israel in February.
