Iran Faces Challenges Amid US-Israel Alliance as Russia Offers Support
Iran's Position in the Ongoing Conflict
Following the recent attacks by the United States, Iran appears to be on the defensive in the ongoing conflict. With Israel receiving direct assistance from the US, Iran is now looking towards Russia and China for support. Currently, Iran's Foreign Minister is visiting Russia, where Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on Monday that Russia is prepared to assist Iran in various ways, contingent upon Tehran's requests.
Russia's Commitment to Iran
During a press briefing, Peskov responded to inquiries by emphasizing that the nature of assistance would depend on Iran's specific needs. He noted that Russia has openly declared its stance on the Iran-Israel conflict, considering it a significant form of support for Tehran. Should Iran request military aid from Russia, and if the Russian military intervenes, the conflict could escalate dramatically.
Clarification of Russia's Position
The Kremlin spokesperson reiterated, "We have made our position clear. We stand with Iran." He also mentioned that the recent discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former US President Donald Trump included the issue of the Iran-Israel conflict.
Putin's Remarks to Abbas Araghchi
In a meeting in Moscow on Monday, President Putin conveyed to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi that the aggression against Iran is baseless. Previously, Russia condemned the attacks by the US and Israel on Iran.
Potential Shift in the War's Dynamics
If Russia decides to intervene in this conflict, it could significantly enhance Iran's military capabilities. Currently, Iran is engaging Israel using its ballistic missiles. With Russia's involvement, Iran's air power would likely increase, and the provision of Russian air defense systems could reduce casualties from Israeli attacks.
