Iran Claims Downing of US F-35 Fighter Jet Amid Rising Tensions
Iran's Assertion of Downing an F-35
Washington reports that Iran has announced the downing of a US F-35 fighter jet on Friday. However, the Iranian authorities have denied claims regarding the capture of the pilot. Earlier media reports suggested that the pilot was in Iranian custody, but it was later clarified that he ejected from the aircraft before it crashed and landed somewhere within Iran.
US Military Search Operation
In response, the US military initiated a search operation in the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces to locate the pilot. This operation involved the deployment of Black Hawk helicopters and C-130 Hercules aircraft.
Iran's Warning to the US and Israel
The Iranian military has issued a stern warning, stating that if the US and Israel escalate attacks on its infrastructure, they will target their bases throughout the Middle East. Spokesperson Ibrahim Jolfaghari emphasized that any damage to their bridges, power plants, or energy infrastructure would result in retaliation against US positions in the region.
India's Concerns Over Maritime Safety
India has expressed its concerns regarding the safety of its sailors in the Strait of Hormuz. During an online meeting convened by the UK to discuss reopening the Strait, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted that only Indian nationals have lost their lives in the ongoing crisis, with reports indicating that three Indian sailors have died while working on foreign vessels.
Support for China-Pakistan Ceasefire Plan
The African Union (AU) has welcomed a five-point ceasefire plan proposed by Pakistan and China, aimed at halting the conflict in Iran and promoting dialogue. The plan includes immediate ceasefire measures and the reopening of maritime routes. AU Chairman Mahmoud Ali Yusuf stated that this initiative could contribute to peace and stability in the Middle East and Gulf region.
Iran Releases Debris Images of the F-35
Iran has also released images purportedly showing debris from the downed F-35 fighter jet, claiming it to be the remnants of the aircraft they shot down.
