Iranian President's Optimistic Meeting with UAE Crown Prince

New Delhi: Following a significant meeting with Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian characterized their discussions as a "productive dialogue" and expressed a mutual desire to move forward.

The talks took place during the BRICS summit and were viewed as a potential thaw in relations between the two nations.

"We had a constructive conversation with the Crown Prince and agreed to leave past grievances behind, focusing on future collaboration," Pezeshkian stated, as reported by the Iranian embassy.

Tensions had escalated between Iran and the UAE recently, particularly after Iran's attacks on several US military bases located in the UAE, which were in retaliation for US strikes on Iranian sites.

This meeting gained additional importance as it occurred just days before discussions between Iran and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members in Oman.

Scheduled for September 14, the Iran-GCC meeting aims to address transit agreements through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, marking the first such dialogue since the onset of the West Asia conflict.

Pezeshkian also mentioned brief discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, highlighting a positive outlook for enhancing economic partnerships.

"Our exchanges with the leaders of Russia and China were brief but promising, indicating a potential for expanded economic cooperation," he remarked.

Furthermore, Pezeshkian noted that BRICS nations condemned attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities and civilian infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of restraint and respect for the sovereignty of West Asian countries.

He stated that the summit's declaration reflected a collective opposition to such aggressions and a broader concern regarding "unilateralism, occupation, and breaches of international law."

The participating nations underscored the necessity of bolstering multilateralism and striving for a multipolar world, according to reports from Iran's Tasnim news agency.

Pezeshkian concluded by stating that the summit has opened up promising avenues for investment, financial transactions, and enhanced economic collaboration.
