Recent Events and Security Measures

This display of support comes after a recent incident at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium, where a highly anticipated match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was canceled. Spectators were informed to leave the venue, and both teams were escorted back to their accommodations. Punjab Kings confirmed the match cancellation via their official social media account.

Following the match's cancellation, fans were heard chanting anti-Pakistan slogans as they exited the stadium. Concurrently, the Indian Army successfully countered multiple drone attacks from Pakistan along the western border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir during the night of May 8-9.

The Indian Army reported, "Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along the entire Western Border on the intervening night of 08 and 09 May 2025. Pak troops also resorted to numerous ceasefire violations along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. The drone attacks were effectively repulsed, and a fitting reply was given to the ceasefire violations. The Indian Army remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nation. All nefarious designs will be responded to with force."

Defence officials noted that the indigenously developed Akash surface-to-air missile system played a vital role in thwarting these drone attacks. Both the Indian Army and Air Force have deployed this missile system along the Pakistan border, which is designed to provide area air defence against various aerial threats.
