IPL Chairman Hails India's Historic T20 World Cup Victory
IPL Chairman Celebrates India's Triumph
Arun Singh Dhumal, the Chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council, expressed his delight following Team India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand on Sunday. He praised the team's performance throughout the tournament and expressed optimism for their continued success leading up to the 2027 ODI World Cup.
India Creates T20 World Cup History
Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, India secured a commanding 96-run victory over New Zealand, led by Mitchell Santner, successfully defending their T20 World Cup title. This win marked a historic moment as India became the first team to clinch the T20 World Cup on home soil, the first to achieve back-to-back titles since their 2024 win, and the first to lift the trophy three times (2007, 2024, 2026).
Stellar Individual Performances
Key contributions came from Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan in the batting department, while Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah shone with the ball for Team India.
Axar Patel made a significant impact by taking the first wicket of New Zealand's dangerous opener Finn Allen, who had previously scored a remarkable century against South Africa in the semifinals. He finished with impressive figures of 3/27 in 3 overs, claiming the wickets of Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell as well.
Jasprit Bumrah also delivered an outstanding performance, recording figures of 4/15 in 4 overs.
