IPL 2026 Season Kickoff Details

The opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 will feature the reigning champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), facing off against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 28. To facilitate a seamless travel experience for fans, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced extended metro services and additional commuter amenities.

Extended Metro Operating Hours

As per an official announcement made on Wednesday, metro services in Bengaluru will run later than usual on the day of the match. The last trains from terminal stations will now operate until 2:00 AM the following morning. Key departure times from major terminals include:

  • Whitefield (Kadugodi) at 12:30 AM
  • Challaghatta at 12:45 AM
  • Silk Institute and Madavara at 12:45 AM
  • Bommasandra at 1:00 AM
  • R V Road at 2:00 AM

Additionally, the last train from Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station (Majestic) will leave towards all directions at 1:30 AM.

IPL Tickets as Metro Passes

To simplify travel for attendees, IPL match tickets will double as metro travel passes, featuring a QR code for round-trip travel on Namma Metro. This feature is available on both physical tickets and digital versions. BMRCL recommends that fans use specific metro stations based on their entry gates at the stadium. For those entering via Cubbon Road, Cubbon Park Metro Station is advised, while Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Station (Vidhana Soudha) is recommended for those using Link Road.

Parking Solutions to Alleviate Traffic

To minimize congestion and enhance last-mile connectivity, additional parking options have been established at various metro stations. On match days, parking will be charged at a flat rate of Rs 30 for two-wheelers and Rs 60 for cars, valid until metro operations conclude. Spectators are encouraged to park at stations like Cubbon Park and MG Road, which are conveniently located within walking distance of the stadium, thereby helping to ease traffic in the Central Business District.

Safety Measures and Crowd Management

BMRCL has urged commuters to adhere to guidelines provided by police, stadium officials, and metro personnel to ensure orderly crowd movement and prevent overcrowding. The corporation also retains the authority to manage or temporarily close station entrances if necessary for safety and security.

Tragic Incident Reminder

It is worth noting that last June, a tragic incident occurred where 11 fans lost their lives during a stampede at RCB's victory parade following their first IPL trophy win.
