Former Indian cricket stars Sanjay Bangar and Cheteshwar Pujara have declared the current edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the most explosive in its history.
This season has already showcased some of the highest-scoring matches ever seen in the league. Players like Abhishek Sharma, Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and Prabhsimran Singh, alongside established names such as Ishan Kishan and Devdutt Padikkal, have been relentless against bowlers, particularly during the Powerplay.
The trend is evident in the staggering number of 200-plus scores, which has reached 36 this season alone, nearly double the figures from the same timeframe four years ago. This shift in batting strategy has made high scores a common occurrence, keeping fans engaged and entertained.
So far, there have been 11 successful chases of 200-plus totals, highlighted by Punjab Kings' remarkable pursuit of 265 runs against Delhi Capitals. Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi have both recorded the fastest fifties of the season, achieving this milestone in just 15 balls. Sooryavanshi has accomplished this feat three times this season against RCB, CSK, and SRH, and also scored his second century against SRH in Jaipur.

In T20 cricket, strike rate is everything; it has become the currency of batting, making averages nearly irrelevant. This is all possible due to excellent batting surfaces and the diligent work of BCCI curators across the country," Bangar stated.

He observed that while the Impact Player rule has fostered more aggressive gameplay, the real transformation lies in teams consistently scoring and chasing totals exceeding 200 runs. Pujara praised players like Sooryavanshi, Abhishek, Priyansh Arya, and Padikkal for their bold approach, noting that modern T20 batting now emphasizes quick runs and boundaries over traditional innings building.

The Impact Player rule has indeed allowed teams to play more aggressively for longer periods, but the sheer number of 200-plus totals and how frequently they are chased down is remarkable. Players like Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Priyansh Arya, and Devdutt Padikkal are leading with fearless intent, but it's the overall mindset across teams that is truly impressive. In today's game, the focus is no longer on building an innings; it's about scoring as many runs as possible in the fewest balls and hitting as many boundaries as you can," Pujara explained.
