IPL 2025 Matches Suspended Indefinitely Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

Suspension of IPL Matches

In light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Friday, May 9, that all remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 have been suspended indefinitely.

This decision follows the cancellation of the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala, which was halted midway due to air raid alerts in surrounding areas, including Jammu and Pathankot. This unexpected cancellation raised concerns about the tournament's viability.

A BCCI official remarked, "It does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war," highlighting the seriousness of the current situation. The IPL was initially scheduled to conclude on May 25 with the final match in Kolkata.

The suspension comes after India conducted missile strikes on terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which occurred two weeks following a terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 fatalities.

On Thursday, enforced blackouts and air raid alarms were reported in several districts of Punjab, including Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, and Mohali, as well as in the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Additionally, residents in Jammu reported hearing explosion-like sounds, further heightening public anxiety.

Earlier that day, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) also relocated to the UAE as a precautionary measure due to the rising hostilities.
