Fines Imposed on IPL Captains for Over-Rate Violations


Lucknow: In a recent Indian Premier League match, captains Rajat Patidar of Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Pat Cummins of Sunrisers Hyderabad faced fines due to their teams' slow over-rate.


Cummins incurred a penalty of Rs 12 lakh, marking the first infraction for his team this season under the IPL's Code of Conduct. In contrast, Patidar was fined Rs 24 lakh as it was the second violation for RCB, where he is a member of the playing XI.


According to an IPL statement, "Patidar was fined Rs 24 lakhs due to his team's second offence of the season regarding minimum over-rate violations."


The statement further clarified that other players in the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever amount was lower.


The IPL also noted, "Cummins was fined Rs 12 lakh as it was his team's first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate violations."


Despite already securing a playoff spot, RCB faced a 42-run defeat against SRH in their second-to-last league match.
