Police Interrogation of Students
News Media
Dharamshala: On Monday, law enforcement officials interrogated three of the four students implicated in the tragic death of a college girl in Himachal Pradesh. All three students firmly denied the accusations of ragging and the use of derogatory caste-related terms.
Authorities indicated that they might consider administering polygraph or narco-analysis tests to the accused students and a professor associated with the case as the investigation progresses.
Students Maintain Innocence Amid Viral Video Investigation
The questioning took place at the police station, where the accused students asserted that they did not engage in ragging or use inappropriate language towards the deceased.
Additionally, police are working to verify information regarding a senior student mentioned by one of the accused in a viral video circulating on social media.
Investigators are looking into the origins of the video, the context in which it was recorded, and how it was disseminated online. Officials emphasized that they are treating all aspects of the case with the highest level of seriousness.
Involvement of UGC and Women's Commission
The police have stated that lie-detector or narco tests may be utilized if deemed necessary during the investigation. Meanwhile, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has formed a fact-finding committee that is expected to arrive in Dharamshala soon to conduct an independent inquiry.
A team from the Himachal Pradesh State Women Commission is also anticipated to visit Dharamshala on Tuesday to evaluate the situation and engage with relevant stakeholders.
Collection of Medical Records
Authorities have gathered medical treatment records from approximately seven hospitals concerning the student. They are still awaiting records from a private hospital in Pathankot. These medical documents are essential for determining the specific illness the student was facing and the cause of her death.
Once the statements from doctors and the complete medical records are compiled, the state government plans to establish a medical board. This board will likely include the health director, the chief medical officer, and selected department heads from medical colleges, with specialists in psychiatry, medicine, and pulmonology included.
