Investigation Underway in Death of US Woman in Ireland Linked to Suspect
Details Surrounding Jamey Carney's Death
Jamey Carney, a 43-year-old woman from Westchester County, New York, was discovered deceased in her residence in County Kerry, Ireland. Reports from both Irish and American media indicate that just days prior to her death, Carney shared a social media post featuring Ahmad Alsaqer, a 28-year-old asylum seeker now identified as the primary suspect in her murder. On July 5, she posted a photo on Instagram with Alsaqer, captioning it, "Happy 4th y'all," while they posed in front of an AI-generated Times Square backdrop, with Carney in a New York Knicks shirt and Alsaqer in a New York Giants jersey.
Tragically, Carney's 13-year-old daughter found her mother’s body at their rented home in Killarney on Tuesday. According to police sources, investigators suspect that Alsaqer left Killarney by bus early Tuesday morning, subsequently traveling to Dublin Airport and boarding a flight to Istanbul. Irish authorities have confirmed that he is no longer in the country.
Reports suggest that Alsaqer may attempt to continue his journey from Turkey to either Jordan or Syria. Authorities are also looking into potential contacts he may have in Turkey and France, where he reportedly lived previously. It has been noted that Alsaqer arrived in Ireland in 2024 to seek asylum, having met Carney approximately a year and a half ago, possibly at a pro-Palestine demonstration.
Carney, who worked in healthcare, often shared moments with Alsaqer on social media, including captions like "Dating an Arab be like..," and "I'm his flower/warda and he's my moon/qamar." They were also seen together at pro-Palestine rallies in Ireland. Investigators are currently looking into reports of a disturbance at Carney's home on the evening before her death. Her daughter alerted a family friend on Tuesday afternoon, leading to a call to the Gardaí.
According to police sources, Carney's body was found in her bed, covered by a duvet, with significant bloodstains present in the room, indicating she had suffered severe head injuries during what is believed to have been a prolonged assault. The Gardaí have escalated the case to a murder investigation, although no charges have been filed yet, and the inquiry continues.
