Jorhat, Aug 18: Authorities have detained two women and summoned another for questioning regarding the suspicious death of 18-year-old Anwesha Saikia in Jorhat. The police are investigating the events leading up to her critical condition before being rushed to the hospital.
According to Hrisikesh Hazarika, an officer at Jorhat Sadar police station, the two women in custody are believed to be connected to the case. Additionally, Jharna Goswami, the mother of a suspect named Ayan Goswami, has been called in for questioning.
An FIR has been filed against two women and a man, with the case initially reported at the Rowriah police outpost before being transferred to Jorhat Sadar police station.
Police have indicated that Ayan Goswami, who has been accused by Anwesha's family of being involved in her death, along with some associates, is currently evading arrest.
One of the arrested individuals, Monalisa, allegedly took Anwesha from her residence on August 15. She was apprehended at Barua Chariali after being on the run for three days.
Anwesha's family claims that Monalisa had made several calls to her before arriving to take her out. Anwesha informed her mother that she was heading to Jorhat town to shop for clothes.
Her mother last spoke to her around 7:30 PM, at which point Anwesha indicated she was returning home. However, about 90 minutes later, the family received alarming news that she was critically ill and had been taken to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital. They were later informed of her death.

“After about 90 minutes, we received a call stating she was in serious condition and needed to go to the hospital. Upon inquiry, the doctors informed us that she had passed away on the way,” a family member recounted.
The family suspects that Anwesha was assaulted and has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding her hospital admission. They noted that her clothing appeared to have been changed and that she bore multiple injuries.
Her brother mentioned observing scratches on her legs, back, and face, along with blood around her eyes and the back of her head, and frothing at the mouth. A security guard reportedly detained a woman named Arpita Kakoti during the incident.
Questions Arise Over Hospital Transport
The details of Anwesha's transport to the hospital have also come under scrutiny. The driver of the app-based vehicle that transported her claimed that Ayan had booked the ride and frequently altered the destination.
The driver stated that Anwesha was in critical condition, with foam coming from her mouth when she was placed in the vehicle, accompanied by a young man and a woman.
He also mentioned attempting to document the situation but was prevented from doing so.
The family has alleged that Ayan has a history of drug abuse and has previously undergone rehabilitation.
Investigation into Party at Gauri Apartments
Authorities are currently investigating a party that Ayan allegedly hosted at his mother Jharna Goswami’s apartment in Gauri Apartments on August 15.
Residents and the night guard reported seeing numerous young men and women entering and exiting the apartment starting around 7 PM.
The night guard claimed that multiple complaints had been lodged against Ayan since 2025 regarding disturbances, but no police action had been taken.
A resident recalled a previous incident where Ayan allegedly threatened a security guard with a knife during a dispute over the apartment gate.
These allegations have not been independently verified, and police are currently examining them as part of their ongoing investigation. Efforts are underway to locate Ayan and others believed to be connected to the case.
