Civil Aviation Minister Visits Crash Site

The Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjirapu, visited the site of the Air India plane crash to assess the situation. After his visit, he stated that an investigation into the incident will be conducted, but it is currently difficult to provide an accurate death toll. Naidu expressed his sorrow, noting that BJP leader Vijay Rupani was also present at the scene, along with other civilians.

Minister's Emotional Response

He further remarked that he is deeply shaken by this tragic and horrifying event, still in shock. The Prime Minister has contacted him, urging him to visit the crash site. At this moment, his thoughts are solely with the passengers and their families. Multiple agencies are engaged in rescue operations, and he refrained from commenting on the number of casualties, emphasizing that they are providing all possible assistance. The Union Home Minister is also expected to arrive at the site. Naidu reiterated the commitment to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to uncover the reasons behind this incident.

Former Minister Comments on the Incident

Former Union Civil Aviation Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy described the situation as very tragic and unfortunate, stating that he is not an expert and cannot speculate on the cause of the accident. He mentioned that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is considered a highly capable aircraft, capable of flying for 12-14 hours after takeoff. The flight was en route from Ahmedabad to London, which would typically require 80-90 tons of fuel. Rudy emphasized that the cause of the accident could only be determined after a thorough investigation.

Police Update on Survivors

In a phone conversation with a news media outlet, Ahmedabad's Police Commissioner G.S. Malik reported that a survivor was found in seat 11A and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. The death toll remains uncertain, and it may rise as the aircraft crashed in a residential area. The plane was carrying 169 Indian passengers, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese, and one Canadian. Heavy smoke was visible near the Dhahrpur area of Ahmedabad, and the fire department has arrived on the scene with emergency response teams deployed. Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the crash.
