Investigation Launched Following Fatal Fire Incident
On Wednesday, Ashish Sood, the Energy Minister of Delhi, announced that the police are currently investigating a fire incident in Malviya Nagar that resulted in the deaths of at least 21 individuals. He stated that if the building owner is found guilty of negligence, they will face arrest. Sood emphasized that the investigation has commenced, and officials will take strict action against those responsible, ensuring that no illegal structures are overlooked.
Accountability for Negligence
While addressing the media, Sood mentioned that the investigation aims to determine whether the establishment had obtained the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) and permits to operate as a Bed and Breakfast (BnB). He reiterated that the building owner, if found negligent, would be held accountable and arrested soon. "We will not spare any illegal buildings or those found culpable," he asserted.
Political Reactions to the Incident
BJP leader Manoj Tiwari described the incident as extremely unfortunate, stating that officials are working to identify the shortcomings that led to this tragedy. Tiwari informed that the fire broke out in a restaurant within a hotel, resulting in the loss of 21 lives. He emphasized that this is a matter of investigation, and efforts are ongoing to rectify all deficiencies.
Local Heroics During the Fire
Wasim Raja, a local resident involved in the rescue efforts, recounted how he and others rushed to the scene as soon as the fire broke out. They helped evacuate people from the building by bringing mattresses from a nearby shop. Raja stated, "As soon as the short circuit occurred, we arrived here. We were among the first responders. We took mattresses from a nearby shop and laid them on the street to assist those jumping from the building."
