Investigation Underway After Infant Found Abandoned in Maharashtra
Serious Condition of Abandoned Infant Sparks Police Inquiry
In Maharashtra's Palghar district, a four-day-old infant has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Authorities are questioning the mother due to inconsistencies in her statements, according to a police official.
Sources from the hospital revealed that the newborn was brought to Dahanu Sub-District Hospital in a severe state. Initially, doctors suspected that the child might have been injured in an animal attack; however, medical examinations indicated that the wounds were not fresh.
Upon receiving the report, police began interrogating the infant's mother. An official stated on Wednesday, 'Initially, the woman claimed that the baby had accidentally fallen. Later, she provided various explanations that did not align with the medical findings.'
The nature of the injuries and the circumstances suggest possible negligence and abandonment of the child. It has been reported that local residents found the baby lying outside and questioned the woman, prompting her to retrieve the infant.
Authorities suspect that stray animals may have attacked the child during the abandonment. A Dahanu police officer mentioned, 'We are investigating all aspects of the case.' The infant has since been referred to a hospital in Valsad, Gujarat, for advanced treatment.
