The shooting occurred on Monday morning in this city of approximately 23,000 residents, situated about 15 miles southwest of Portland. The identity of the victim was confirmed by local media, with Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau stating on social media, "A person was killed. ICE was involved." He noted that both the Maine State Police and the Maine Department of Public Safety were present at the scene to collect information, and he anticipated that the FBI would take over the investigation. Fecteau mentioned that he would share updates as they became available, but as of Monday, there had been no immediate responses from ICE, the FBI, or the Maine Department of Public Safety regarding the incident.

Project Relief, an immigrant rights organization, confirmed that one of its community members died during the encounter with ICE. While they have been in touch with the victim's family, they have not released any personal details about the individual. The organization expressed their sorrow, stating, "This was a young person whose life was cut short," and called for justice and support for the victim's family and the community.

In response to the incident, a local advocacy group, Biddeford Saco for Racial Justice, organized a protest against ICE at Mechanics Park in Biddeford, scheduled for noon on Monday. Reports indicated that demonstrators began to gather ahead of the protest. Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting remain unclear, including whether the victim was armed or if any officers sustained injuries. According to reports, if it is confirmed that an ICE officer was responsible for the fatal shooting, it would mark at least the ninth death associated with encounters with federal immigration officials since the onset of the Trump administration's immigration policies. In a five-day operation at the end of June, ICE apprehended over 10,000 individuals. Earlier this year, a significant enforcement operation in Maine, dubbed "Catch of the Day"—a nod to the state's seafood industry—triggered widespread public protests.
