Investigation Underway After Body Found in Scottsdale Canal Amid Ongoing Search for Missing Woman
Body Discovered in Scottsdale Canal
Authorities in Scottsdale are conducting an investigation following the recovery of a body from a canal located near the Silverado Golf Course, specifically at the intersection of Indian Bend Road and 76th Street. This discovery coincides with the ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie, who has been missing since February 1. Investigators suspect she was abducted from her residence in the Catalina Foothills the previous night. Over a month later, no suspects have been identified, and her whereabouts remain unknown. Officials have previously emphasized the urgency of the search, citing Guthrie's existing health issues, including heart problems and high blood pressure, along with the medication she left behind at home.
On March 28, a passerby noticed the body in the canal around 8:00 AM local time. Scottsdale Police released a statement indicating, "A death investigation is underway after an adult woman's body was recovered from a canal near Indian Bend and Hayden Roads." They further explained that police and fire personnel collaborated with local agencies to retrieve the body and initiate the investigation. Detectives and crime scene experts were dispatched to gather evidence and meticulously document the scene.
Due to the state of the body, authorities have not yet been able to ascertain if there were any signs of trauma. The investigation is still in its preliminary phases as detectives strive to confirm the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding her presence in the canal. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office is aiding in the inquiry. The discovery has sparked online speculation regarding a potential connection to Guthrie’s disappearance, although officials have not confirmed any links. Scottsdale is situated approximately 117 miles from Tucson. Some users on social media have raised questions about a possible relation, with one asking, "Is this connected to Nancy Guthrie?" while another remarked, "Wait, Don't Tell Me. 2 Blocks From Her House, Right?" Conversely, others have dismissed these theories, with comments like, "Anyone familiar with the Phoenix metro area knows they recover bodies from the canal monthly. Definitely not Nancy Guthrie," and another stating, "It ain't Nancy." Earlier this month, a different body was discovered in southeast Tucson, which also led to speculation, but no connections to Guthrie’s case were established.
