Investigation Underway Following Nightclub Blaze
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the devastating fire that broke out at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub. The owners, Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra, have been booked, and the village head of Arpora-Nagova, Roshan Redkar, has also been taken into custody. This tragic incident occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of at least 25 individuals and injuring six others.
Political Fallout in Goa
In the aftermath of this horrific event, political turmoil has erupted in Goa. The Congress party has directly blamed the state government for the incident and is demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Amit Patkar, the head of Goa Congress, stated, 'Twenty-five innocent lives have been lost, and therefore, the Chief Minister and all involved ministers should resign on moral and political grounds immediately.' He has also urged the Governor to request the President to dismiss this government, citing that this is not the first such incident in the state.

The fire occurred at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub located in Arpora village, approximately 25 kilometers from the state capital, Panaji. Among the deceased, it is reported that 14 were nightclub employees, while some victims were tourists.
Government Response and Safety Measures
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant have expressed their condolences regarding the incident, and officials have commenced an investigation. Michael Lobo, a BJP legislator from Goa, mentioned that firefighters and police worked throughout the night to conduct rescue operations. He also indicated that authorities would perform fire safety audits at other clubs in the state to prevent future occurrences.
