Investigation into Team Protocol Breach

England's captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson are currently facing scrutiny for breaching team protocols after being spotted at a nightclub on Monday. This occurred shortly after England's victory in the first Test against New Zealand at Lord's.

ECB Issues Statement on the Matter

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that they are looking into the incident. Their statement noted, "The ECB is investigating a breach of team protocols that took place after the first Men's Test against New Zealand. Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were at a nightclub during the early hours of Monday when an incident occurred."

Additionally, the ECB mentioned that they will announce the squad for the upcoming second Test at The Oval on June 17 in due time. They are gathering more information and have informed the Cricket Regulator about the situation.

History of Off-Field Issues

This incident marks the second time in recent months that England's players have faced criticism for their off-field conduct. Previously, Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell were scrutinized for partying and allegedly being intoxicated during a trip to Noosa after suffering two significant defeats against Australia in the Ashes last year. Furthermore, Harry Brook, the limited-overs captain, was reportedly involved in a confrontation during a tour to New Zealand prior to the Ashes series.

England's Performance at Lord's

In the first Test at Lord's, England achieved a 115-run victory in a match that concluded in under four days. Ollie Robinson was named 'Player of the Match' for his impressive performance, taking seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings.

Debutant opener Emilio Gay also made a notable contribution, scoring a half-century in the second innings, setting New Zealand a target of 254 runs. England bowled out the Kiwis for just 138 runs, with Gus Atkinson claiming five wickets in the second innings.
