Incident at Mahu Civil Hospital

On Saturday, a stray dog was spotted carrying a deceased newborn near the restroom of a government hospital in Indore district, Madhya Pradesh. A security guard intervened to rescue the body from the dog.

Authorities from the civil hospital in Mahu, located about 25 kilometers from the district headquarters, along with police, have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the newborn's body.

Dr. H.R. Verma, the in-charge of Mahu Civil Hospital, informed a news agency that CCTV footage indicates the incident occurred between 1:30 AM and 2:00 AM. During this time, a teenage girl was seen entering the restroom. Upon inquiry, staff revealed that a 17-year-old girl had been admitted with abdominal pain at 9 PM on Friday. There are suspicions that she may have given birth in the restroom.

Dr. Verma noted that shortly after, the girl disappeared from the hospital with an unidentified individual. Other officials suggested that the infant was likely stillborn and that the dog was carrying it away when the security guard intervened.

The doctor mentioned, 'We conducted a post-mortem on Saturday morning and are awaiting the report. The preliminary findings indicate that the delivery was premature. The body has been placed in the morgue. The police have commenced an investigation, and we will provide them with all available CCTV footage.'

Meanwhile, sources indicated that the hospital has three entrances that remain open at night. They noted that stray dogs can enter through a gate located near the storeroom.

Reports suggest that the body of the newborn had been partially consumed by the dogs. Dr. Verma acknowledged that the body was mutilated. Rahul Sharma, the officer in charge of Mahu police station, confirmed that an investigation into the matter has begun. This incident occurred just four days after a pack of stray dogs killed a four-year-old child on the Suwasra-Runija road in Mandsaur district.
