Drone Sighting Prompts Inquiry in Nagpur

Authorities have initiated an investigation following the sighting of an unidentified drone over the airstrip of 'Solar Industries', a manufacturer of defense-related products in Nagpur. This information was disclosed by officials on Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police Dr. Harsh Poddar reported that a case has been registered against an unknown individual at the Kondhali police station, and the investigation is ongoing.

Details of the Incident

An officer from the Kondhali police station revealed that the drone was spotted on December 9 around 7:15 PM, approximately 40 kilometers away on the Nagpur-Amravati road. Due to the darkness, its size could not be determined.

Security personnel at the company observed only flickering lights in the sky and promptly informed senior security officials, who then alerted the Kondhali police.

Search Operations Underway

The authorities ordered an immediate investigation. Police teams conducted searches in nearby villages to ascertain whether the drone was being used for a wedding or private event and had inadvertently strayed off course.

Search operations were carried out in the villages of Malkapur, Shiva, and Sawanga, but no information regarding the drone has been uncovered so far. Police teams remained stationed in these villages for two days, yet their efforts yielded no results.

Intelligence Bureau Involvement

A senior official mentioned that a team from the Intelligence Bureau is also looking into the incident. 'Solar Industries' is known for manufacturing indigenous armed drones (hexacopters), military explosives, rocket integration systems, 'lightering munitions', anti-drone missiles, bombs, and combat materials for armed forces.

'Lightering munitions' are a type of unmanned aerial vehicle or drone sent for surveillance over targeted areas. Once they identify a suitable target, they autonomously collide with it and detonate.
