Investigation into Ayodhya Temple Donation Theft to Conclude Soon

Investigation Timeline and Coordination

On August 8, in Ayodhya, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Grover announced that the investigation into the theft of donations at the Ram Temple will be completed within 90 days, with a charge sheet expected to be filed in court by the end of September. Grover informed reporters that the current Special Investigation Team (SIT) is not conducting a separate inquiry but is instead coordinating with the police to ensure a high-standard investigation.

SIT Leadership and Progress

The SIT is led by IG Kiran S, who has five years of experience with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Grover stated that the investigation is progressing with the SIT's coordination, and various aspects related to the donation theft have already been examined. He is actively monitoring the local investigation and providing necessary consultations.

Supreme Court Involvement

On July 27, the Uttar Pradesh government informed the Supreme Court about the formation of a four-member SIT under IG Kiran S to investigate the donation theft. The Supreme Court has requested the inclusion of an auditor as a fifth member of the SIT, who is expected to submit the first status report within two weeks. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohan, considered the arguments presented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on behalf of the state.

Composition of the SIT

The SIT will include officers at the level of Deputy Inspector General (DIG), along with the Senior Superintendent of Police and Additional Superintendent of Police. Previously, on July 20, the bench had asked the Uttar Pradesh government to provide information regarding the possibility of forming an SIT for the donation theft case.

Legal Actions and Developments

Sources linked to the temple have indicated that no significant legal actions have been taken against any major responsible individuals in the donation theft case so far. Earlier, the SIT formed by the state government raised serious questions about the involvement of former Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust member Anil Mishra. An FIR regarding the alleged theft was filed at the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi police station on June 25, leading to the arrest of eight accused individuals.

Ongoing Investigation

Investigation officer and Ayodhya Circle Officer (CO) Ashutosh Tiwari stated that the inquiry is ongoing. He mentioned that documents are being updated based on facts revealed during the questioning, and the investigation is progressing. Kalika Mishra, president of the Faizabad Bar Association, expressed the bar's commitment to taking action against Champat Rai, Anil Mishra, and Gopal Rao. He warned that if these three are not named in the FIR, they will soon approach the court to file an FIR against them.
