Investigation Intensifies into Ayodhya Ram Mandir Donation Controversy
Focus Shifts to Administrative Oversight of Ram Mandir
The controversy surrounding donations to the Ayodhya Ram Mandir has now shifted towards the examination of the temple's operations and administrative oversight. In a recent development, Shashank Tripathi, the District Magistrate of Ayodhya, has been assigned responsibility for overseeing temple-related activities, while officials investigate allegations linked to the donations received by the temple. This follows the submission of an initial report by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Uttar Pradesh government, which was presented by Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad. Authorities have clarified that the investigation is ongoing, and evidence is still being collected.
Formation of SIT and Allegations of Financial Mismanagement
In response to allegations regarding the management and accounting of donations received by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the Uttar Pradesh government established the SIT on June 13. This investigation aims to scrutinize claims of discrepancies in donation records and potential misuse of funds. Meanwhile, a new petition has been filed in the Supreme Court, requesting judicial oversight of the Trust's financial matters. The petition calls for the registration of an FIR and the establishment of a CBI-led SIT to investigate missing funds, financial irregularities, and administrative shortcomings. Petitioners are also seeking directives to secure all donation registers, audit reports, CCTV footage, bank records, and digital data related to the temple's finances, arguing that transparency is essential to maintain public trust in the management of donations from millions of devotees.
Concerns Over the Ongoing Investigation
The petition raises questions about the scope of the ongoing SIT investigation at the state level, noting that it commenced without a formal FIR being filed. According to the petition, an independent inquiry may be necessary to ascertain the facts and determine if any wrongdoing has occurred. Currently, the main update is that the SIT's initial report has been received by the state government, the investigation is still active, and reports indicate that administrative responsibilities have been assigned to District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi, while scrutiny of the Trust's financial management has intensified.
