Investigation Intensifies into Attack on Security Guards in Mira Road, Possible Terror Links Explored
Investigation into Security Guard Attack
The investigation into the assault on two security guards in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road, Maharashtra, has escalated, with agencies now probing potential terrorist connections. Sources indicate that the incident may be linked to a 'lone wolf' attack, raising serious security concerns. During the investigation, authorities discovered a note from the suspect containing terms such as ISIS, jihad, and Gaza. The threatening language and radical ideology expressed in the note have intensified suspicions. It reportedly included phrases like, 'Lone wolves will strike, and you will witness true jihad in 'Bilad-e-Hind'!' along with incomplete lines referencing people, families, and Gaza.
Details of the Attack
According to police reports, the suspect, identified as Zubair Ansari, initially approached the area and inquired about the direction to a mosque. He later returned and questioned a security guard about his religion, allegedly asking him to recite the 'Kalma.' When the guard refused, Ansari suddenly attacked him with a knife. He then entered the security cabin and assaulted a second guard in a similar manner. Following the discovery of suspicious items, the case has been handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). Investigators are currently examining the suspect's digital footprint, including mobile data, browsing history, and communication records. During a search of his residence, additional notes and documents were reportedly found, indicating his influence from the extremist ideology associated with the banned terrorist organization ISIS, with multiple references to 'lone wolf,' 'jihad,' and 'Gaza.'
Background of the Suspect
Ansari is a science graduate who spent several years in the United States. After returning to India, he lived alone in Mira Road and worked as an online chemistry tutor. Sources suggest that during a period of unemployment and isolation, he may have gradually been drawn to radical online content through social media, video platforms, and messaging apps. Authorities are now investigating whether he acted alone or if a larger network was involved, as well as whether the attack was premeditated or spontaneous.
