Supriya Sule Meets Family of Deceased Doctor

On Monday, Supriya Sule, a Lok Sabha member from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), visited the family of a female doctor who reportedly took her own life in the Satara district of Maharashtra.

Following her meeting with the family in Beed, Sule urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to ensure that no one receives a clean chit until the investigation is concluded.

She also called for the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a retired judge to guarantee a fair and transparent inquiry.

Details of the Incident

Accompanying Sule were party MP Bajrang Sonawane and the president of the party's youth wing, Mahboob Sheikh. The doctor, a resident of Beed district, was discovered hanging in a hotel room in Phaltan, Satara, on October 23.

In a suicide note written on her palm, she accused police officer Gopal Badane of raping her multiple times and claimed that software engineer Prashant had subjected her to mental harassment. Both individuals have since been arrested.

Government Response and Concerns

An official stated on Friday that Chief Minister Fadnavis, who oversees the Home Department, has instructed the state’s Director General of Police to establish an SIT under a female IPS officer immediately.

After her visit with the doctor’s family, Sule expressed to reporters, "Some statements from government representatives in this case are extremely insensitive and disturbing. The doctor was a capable daughter of Maharashtra and deserves justice. People feel that there is an attempt to suppress the case, but we will not remain silent until justice is served."

Call for Transparency

Sule raised concerns over the alleged leak of call data records, questioning how selective information was made public. The NCP's working president stated, "Let the investigation proceed. Why the rush? Whoever is guilty—regardless of who they are—should be punished."

She also mentioned that MP Sonawane would soon meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi to brief him on the facts of the case.
