In celebration of International Youth Day, Government Arya College Nurpur held a significant lecture focused on the theme “Youth, Drug Prevention and Mental Health.” This initiative was a collaborative effort between the Anti-Drug Committee and the Mental Health Committee, guided by the College Principal, Dr. Anil Kumar Thakur.
The event featured experts from the Brahma Kumaris organization, including Ms. C.K. Jyoti, alongside faculty and students. Dr. Diljit Singh, the Convener of the committees, opened the program by welcoming the attendees and emphasizing the critical need for awareness initiatives to combat the rising issue of drug abuse among young people.
During her address, Ms. C.K. Jyoti discussed the detrimental effects of drug use, the significance of mental health, and the necessity of raising societal awareness. She highlighted the Brahma Kumaris' commitment, in partnership with the government, to educate youth about the perils of drug addiction.
She pointed out that adolescents often face emotional and mental challenges that can lead them to addiction, negative influences, and even criminal behavior. Therefore, she stressed the importance of awareness and preventive measures. Additionally, she spoke about how spirituality, positive thinking, and meditation can enhance self-control and mental strength.
Subsequently, members of the Brahma Kumaris led a pledge for students and teachers to commit to a drug-free lifestyle and to promote awareness within the community. All attendees reaffirmed their dedication to fostering a drug-free environment.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from NSS and Red Ribbon Club members, with around 200 students in attendance. It concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks to the experts, faculty, and students for their active involvement.
