Internal Dissent Surfaces in Himachal Congress Amidst CM Sukhu's Criticism of BJP
Growing Dissent Within Congress
As Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu intensifies his attacks on the BJP, signs of discontent within the Congress party are becoming increasingly apparent. In a notable political shift, Kaul Singh Thakur, a senior Congress figure and former state party president, has publicly criticized the performance of the Sukhu administration.
Speaking at an event in the Drang assembly constituency, Thakur contrasted the current government with the previous leadership of Virbhadra Singh, asserting that Singh's governance was far more effective and results-driven.
He questioned, "What is the point if work is not getting done?" highlighting a significant slowdown in project execution within the current administration.
Thakur pointed out that files that receive the Chief Minister's approval often remain unresolved for extended periods, stating, "In the current government, even after the Chief Minister writes 'approved', no action is taken for three months. During Virbhadra Singh's time, actions were initiated within two days."
He reminisced about the promptness of Singh's administration, where orders were issued immediately upon approval.
Concerns Over Administrative Efficiency
Thakur raised concerns about a disconnect between the Chief Minister's office and the bureaucratic machinery, suggesting that decisions are getting stalled at the administrative level.
He cited a specific instance from his constituency where recommendations for appointing school principals were not executed correctly. Instead of implementing the approved appointments, one principal was transferred to Kibber in Kaza and another to Panjai, raising questions about the decision-making process.
Despite bringing this issue to the Chief Minister's attention, Thakur noted that no corrective measures have been taken.
Allegations of Favoritism
In a more serious claim, Thakur alleged that while Congress workers struggle to get their legitimate requests addressed, BJP members are reportedly having their needs met swiftly.
If these allegations gain traction, they could exacerbate tensions within the ruling party.
Rising Frustration Among Party Members
Thakur also pointed out the growing frustration among party workers, especially in the Drang area, where numerous schools are facing teacher shortages.
He mentioned that promoted teachers have been assigned to positions outside the constituency, leaving local schools understaffed.
"People come to me with their issues, but all I can do is pass their requests along. Even with the Chief Minister's approval, progress is stalled. This has led to anger among the workers," he expressed.
Political Implications for the Sukhu Government
Thakur's public remarks have sent shockwaves through Himachal Pradesh's political landscape. The video of his statements is circulating widely on social media, increasing pressure on the state leadership.
This situation is viewed as a clear sign of internal dissatisfaction within the Congress, particularly among senior figures, at a time when the Sukhu government is already under fire for its governance and financial management.
Political analysts suggest that such open criticism from a prominent leader like Thakur is indicative of deeper issues within the party.
While CM Sukhu continues to focus on attacking the BJP, the emerging dissent from within his own ranks may present a more significant challenge to manage.
If not addressed appropriately, this internal strife could escalate into a larger political hurdle for the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh.
