Growing Discontent Within Punjab Congress

Recent organizational changes within the Punjab Congress have intensified internal disagreements, with former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi emerging as a key voice against these alterations. Despite speculation regarding leadership shifts, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has retained his position as the president of the Punjab Congress. This decision has further fueled dissent within the state unit. Expressing their dissatisfaction, the Channi-Randhawa faction has opted to boycott all party events where Raja Warring will be present as the state party leader. This move is perceived as a clear sign of discontent towards the central leadership's decision to maintain the current leadership structure. Sources indicate that the Channi-Randhawa faction has escalated their concerns to the Congress high command. Former minister and MLA Paragat Singh, along with several other legislators, has traveled to Delhi to directly communicate the faction's worries to the party leadership.

Bhupesh Baghel's Mediation Efforts Fail

This situation unfolded after senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel's recent visit to Chandigarh, where he held meetings aimed at reducing tensions and uniting the warring factions within the party following the changes. However, the Channi-Randhawa faction's decision to bypass state-level mediation and directly approach the central leadership is seen as a move that could exacerbate the ongoing rebellion.

MLA Bains Denies Reports of Division

Former MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains from Ludhiana dismissed rumors of a split within the Punjab Congress, asserting that the senior leadership remains united. He claimed that Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, MP Sukjinder Singh Randhawa, and the Congress high command would soon be seen together, sending a clear message of unity. Speaking to reporters, Bains emphasized that the media is viewing Congress through a lens of division and insisted there is no reason to question the party's unity, stating that its leaders are collaborating effectively despite recent speculations.

Randhawa Shares Group Photo, Warring Absent

This revelation came to light when MP Sukjinder Singh Randhawa shared a group photo on the social media platform X, featuring several leaders from the state unit. Accompanying the photo, Randhawa wrote, 'There is strength in unity.' The image included prominent Punjab Congress leaders, such as co-chair of the manifesto committee and MLA Paragat Singh, co-chair of the election committee Razia Sultana, and Bharat Bhushan Ashu, among others. Shortly after, Channi also posted the same photo on his X account with the same caption.
