Security Forces Target Militant Hideouts

Churachandpur, Jan 16: On Friday, security forces executed extensive anti-insurgency operations aimed at suspected militant hideouts in the remote regions of Churachandpur district in Manipur, as reported by an official source.

Personnel from various units, including Para Special Forces and Assam Rifles, engaged in coordinated counter-insurgency efforts in the Henglep area, focusing on locations believed to be associated with militant groups.

This region has been identified as a stronghold for the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), which is not part of the Suspension of Operations agreement. However, further information is pending regarding the specific group being targeted by the security forces.

The operation concentrated on forested regions within the hill district and is part of ongoing initiatives to mitigate militant activities.

Troops were deployed into the challenging jungle terrain with the assistance of helicopters.

Since May 2023, ethnic violence between the Meitei community from the Imphal Valley and the Kuki-Zo groups from the hills has resulted in over 260 fatalities and left thousands displaced.

Currently, Manipur is under President's rule, which was enacted on February 13, 2025, following the resignation of the then Chief Minister N Biren Singh on February 9 of the previous year.
