Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 30: The youth wing of the BJP has escalated its protests against Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan throughout Kerala, framing these actions as retaliation for the Youth Congress demonstration that occurred during Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Kollam last week.
This surge in protests has transformed the political landscape, bringing the ongoing conflict between the ruling Congress-led UDF and the BJP into public view.
During these demonstrations, BJP Yuva Morcha members have specifically targeted CM Satheesan and other ministers.
In response to HM Shah's arrival in Kollam, Youth Congress activists had previously organized a protest.
The BJP youth faction has characterized their actions against CM Satheesan as a direct response to that event.
The protests have also involved State Sports Minister and Youth Congress leader O.K. Janeesh.
As tensions rose, Yuva Morcha members protested against Janeesh when his vehicle passed by.
In the early hours of Wednesday, Yuva Morcha activists staged a demonstration as CM Satheesan returned from Delhi, heading to his official residence in Thiruvananthapuram.
The protests have escalated to include attacks on Congress offices, with two such locations reportedly damaged by stone-throwing incidents.
This prompted a strong reaction from state Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and state Congress president, who is also the Electricity Minister, Sunny Joseph.
Chennithala acknowledged that protests are a part of democratic expression but emphasized that "destruction cannot be tolerated."
He assured that such actions would not go unpunished, while Sunny Joseph voiced his disapproval of the violence, asserting that political protests should remain non-violent.
The situation has intensified as the new government faces mounting street protests from opposition groups.
Since taking office, CM Satheesan has opted for a smaller security detail compared to his predecessor, Pinarayi Vijayan, traveling with just a pilot and an escort vehicle.
On Wednesday morning, CM Satheesan reportedly expressed dissatisfaction upon noticing an additional pilot vehicle during a function's inauguration.
However, the recent protests have raised significant concerns regarding the Chief Minister's safety as the political clashes between the Congress and BJP youth factions continue to escalate.
The BJP youth organizations have signaled their intention to maintain these street protests, ensuring that the conflict between the two parties remains active in the days ahead.
