Imphal, Apr 22:  The three-day total shutdown in areas inhabited by Naga communities persisted on Wednesday, with supporters ramping up enforcement at critical points and hindering the movement of security personnel in various locations.

At Noney Bazar on National Highway-37, a convoy belonging to the Assam Rifles was halted by volunteers advocating for the shutdown. Witnesses reported that the vehicles were immobilized for over an hour as protesters obstructed the road, denying them passage.

“The Assam Rifles convoy has been stopped here for an hour, and they will not be allowed to pass," stated a volunteer named Abonmai.

In a display of unity, numerous women from the Chiru, Rongmei, Chothe, and Aimol communities joined the protests. Chanting slogans like “Long Live UNC” and “We want justice,” they actively enforced road blockades across several stretches.

Tension was also noted at Yaingangpokpi Bazar along National Highway-202 (Imphal–Ukhrul road), where the atmosphere remained tense. A local journalist reported that even central security forces were barred from traversing the area amid the ongoing shutdown.

Ukhrul town appeared deserted, with markets closed and minimal vehicular activity as the shutdown took effect.

The ongoing blockade of highways and restrictions on both civilian and security movements indicate a firm stance by shutdown supporters, further disrupting normal life across the affected hill districts.
