Intensified Security Operations in Jammu and Kashmir Ahead of Amit Shah's Visit
Security Forces Ramp Up Operations Against Terrorists
In a significant move prior to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have escalated their operations against terrorists in the region. Shah is scheduled to arrive in Jammu for a three-day visit starting February 5, 2026, where he will assess the security situation, engage with political leaders, and inaugurate various development projects. Just ahead of his arrival, two major encounters took place on February 4, 2026, in the Udhampur and Kishtwar districts, resulting in the deaths of three terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
Udhampur Encounter: Two Jaish Commanders Neutralized
In the Zafar forest area of Udhampur district, security forces targeted a cave using drones and rocket launchers. This operation, named 'Kiya', led to the elimination of two high-ranking commanders from Jaish-e-Mohammed:
- Rubani alias Abu Mawiya (a prominent commander active in the region for several years).
- The second terrorist was also affiliated with Jaish. The encounter lasted over 20 hours, marked by heavy explosions and gunfire, but fortunately, no soldiers were martyred.
Kishtwar Encounter: One Terrorist Killed, Top Commander Encircled
In the snowy forests of the Chhatru area in Kishtwar district, under Operation Trashy-I, security forces have surrounded Jaish-e-Mohammed's top commander Saifullah along with 2-3 Pakistani terrorists. Saifullah is believed to be the mastermind behind several murders and attacks in the area.
- So far, one terrorist has been killed.
- The encirclement is tight, with intermittent firing continuing.
- Mobile internet services have been suspended, and helicopters and drones are being deployed. This operation has been ongoing since January, with previous encounters resulting in the martyrdom of a paratrooper.
Focus on Eliminating Foreign Terrorists
These operations are part of the Operation All-Out, which aims to eliminate foreign terrorists, particularly those from Jaish, in the Jammu region. Officials have stated that there is continuous monitoring of the presence of Pakistani terrorists in the upper areas of the Jammu division.
