Intensified Search for Terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur District
Expanded Search Operations Underway
Jammu: Authorities have expanded their search efforts to locate terrorists believed to be hiding in the forested regions of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir, as reported on Monday.
The operation, which is now in its second day, was initiated in the Majalta forests after two terrorists allegedly took food from a local residence before fleeing into the nearby woods, according to officials on Sunday.
On Monday morning, the search area was extended to nearly ten kilometers within the forest to effectively track down the two suspects, utilizing sniffer dogs and aerial surveillance.
This decision to broaden the search was prompted by the sighting of the terrorists for the third time in recent days, with their movements reported again on Sunday night.
A collaborative search operation involving police and paramilitary forces is currently taking place in Chore Motu and surrounding forest villages in the Majalta area, located about five kilometers from a previous encounter site where a policeman lost his life.
Officials indicated that intelligence received late Saturday revealed that two unidentified terrorists had visited the home of Mangtu Ram in Chore Motu village around 6:30 PM and had taken food.
On December 15, a policeman was killed during an encounter with terrorists in Soan village, following reports of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist activity in the area. The terrorists managed to escape, utilizing the dense foliage and darkness to their advantage.
