Intensified Missile Strikes on Kyiv Amid Ukraine's Drone Campaign

In a significant escalation, Russia executed one of its most extensive ballistic missile offensives against Kyiv since the onset of the conflict, launching numerous missiles at the Ukrainian capital. This attack coincided with Ukraine's intensified drone operations targeting deep within Russian territory. The Ukrainian Air Force reported multiple missile strikes on Kyiv throughout the night, with monitoring sources indicating that approximately 35 to 40 missiles were directed at the capital and its vicinity, including Iskander-M, S-400, and Zircon missiles.

Kyiv's Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed that a multi-storey residential building was struck in the Solomianskyi district. Additionally, missile debris caused a fire in another apartment complex in the Shevchenkivskyi district, while blazes erupted at a shopping and entertainment center and several vehicles in the Dniprovskyi district. A private residence also caught fire in the Sviatoshynskyi district, as reported by Klitschko. Emergency services were dispatched to all impacted areas.

This latest wave of attacks occurred as Ukraine increased its drone strikes on Russian soil, aiming at logistics hubs and energy facilities to disrupt Moscow's military supply lines.

In response, Russian officials reported that Ukrainian drone assaults resulted in nine fatalities and over 80 injuries nationwide. Among the most devastating incidents was an attack on warehouses belonging to Wildberries, the largest online retailer in Russia, located in the Tambov and Moscow regions. Governor Yevgeny Pervyshov of Tambov stated that seven night-shift workers lost their lives and 25 others were injured when drones struck a Wildberries facility in Kotovsk, approximately 360 km (220 miles) from the Ukrainian border. He noted on Telegram that Russian air defenses intercepted 28 drones approaching the area, suggesting that the casualty count could have been significantly higher.

Another Wildberries warehouse in Elektrostal, situated about 50 km east of Moscow, was also targeted, according to Moscow regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov. Vorobyov later reported that one individual succumbed to injuries sustained during the attack. Additionally, burning debris ignited fires at a maternity hospital and a nearby residential building, although both fires were eventually brought under control. A total of 61 individuals were reported injured across the Moscow region due to these strikes. Tatyana Kim, co-founder and CEO of Wildberries, described the events as a "terrible night" for both Russia and the company, extending condolences to the families of the victims. These strikes are part of Ukraine's broader strategy to target Russian military, logistics, and energy infrastructure, while Russia continues its extensive missile assaults on Ukrainian cities.
