Intensified Counterterrorism Efforts in Pakistan: Seven Militants Neutralized

Recent Operations by Pakistani Security Forces

Peshawar/Karachi: In a series of intelligence-driven operations, Pakistani security forces have successfully eliminated seven terrorists within the last two days.

On Wednesday, three militants were neutralized in Dera Ismail Khan, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, as reported by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

The CTD acted on reliable intelligence, targeting militants directly linked to assaults on police and security personnel.

Authorities recovered three Kalashnikov rifles, nine magazines, two hand grenades, and a significant amount of ammunition from the deceased militants.

Separately, four terrorists were killed during an operation in Balochistan province on Monday, according to military sources.

The operation took place in Kalat district, where security forces engaged in a fierce exchange of fire with the terrorists, resulting in their deaths.

Weapons and ammunition were also seized from the militants, who were reportedly involved in various terrorist activities in the region.

In response to a surge in violence, Pakistani security forces have intensified their operations against insurgent groups in Balochistan, where terror incidents rose by 34% last year.

A report from the Islamabad-based Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies highlighted that in 2025, terrorist attacks increased by 34%, leading to a 21% rise in terrorism-related fatalities, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

During a recent press briefing, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of ISPR, disclosed that the army, police, Federal Constabulary, and intelligence agencies conducted a total of 75,175 intelligence-based operations in 2025.

He detailed that 14,658 operations occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 58,778 in Balochistan, and 1,739 in other regions.

Last year, Pakistan experienced 5,397 terror incidents, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa accounting for 71% and Balochistan for 29%.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during his visit to Quetta, reaffirmed the commitment of security forces and law enforcement agencies to continue their counterterrorism efforts to eradicate terrorism from the nation.

Insurgent groups in Balochistan have escalated their attacks, targeting both security installations and civilians.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, militants detonated explosives to destroy a crucial communication bridge over the Kurram River in North Waziristan.

The bridge, located in Tehsil Shewa, was obliterated after unknown individuals planted explosives beneath it, resulting in a powerful explosion that completely dismantled the structure.

This explosion has disrupted land connectivity between Miranshah and its neighboring areas.
