Intensified Counterinsurgency Efforts in Manipur: Ten Militants Arrested

Military and Police Forces Ramp Up Operations

Imphal: In a significant escalation of counterinsurgency operations, security forces have apprehended ten militants from various banned groups over the last day. This operation, involving military, paramilitary, and state forces, aims to capture armed extremists and recover weapons in Manipur, according to officials on Monday.

A police representative confirmed that the detained militants were from different factions of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), and were arrested across three districts: Imphal West, Imphal East, and Bishnupur.

During the arrests, security personnel seized pistols, mobile phones, documents, and ammunition from the militants.

These individuals are believed to have participated in various criminal activities, including kidnappings, shootings, extortion, and demanding money from schools in the Imphal valley region.

Joint teams comprising Manipur Police, Army, Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) are actively conducting searches and counter-insurgency operations in both valley and hilly areas.

Authorities have issued warnings to the public against the dissemination of rumors and fake videos, urging vigilance and caution. The police emphasized that the authenticity of any multimedia content can be verified through the Central Control Room.

The police also cautioned that sharing false information on social media could lead to legal repercussions.

Additionally, the public is encouraged to return any looted weapons, ammunition, and explosives to the police or nearby security forces promptly.

In a move to enhance law enforcement capabilities, the Manipur government has announced plans to establish a new police station in Imphal and create 12 Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) positions across nine districts.

A senior police official stated that this strategic initiative aims to strengthen policing, improve investigation oversight, and enhance overall law and order management in both existing and newly formed districts.
