Intense Gunfights Erupt in Jammu and Kashmir: Five Terrorists Trapped

Jammu: Officials reported that five terrorists are currently engaged in two separate gunfights occurring in the Udhampur and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

The confrontations are taking place in Chatroo village of Kishtwar and Jopher in Udhampur.

"Operations against the terrorists are ongoing at both locations. Three terrorists are believed to be trapped in the Jopher area, while two are cordoned off in Kishtwar," stated an official.

The gunfight in Udhampur began earlier in the day when joint forces acted on specific intelligence regarding the terrorists' presence in Jopher village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ramnagar police station.

"As the police and security teams approached, they came under fire from the terrorists, leading to the current encounter," the official added.

Simultaneously, as the Udhampur gunfight unfolded, security forces cordoned off Chatroo village in Kishtwar, initiating a second confrontation.

Previously, on March 23, an encounter occurred in Sanyal village of Kathua district, located just 4 km from the Pakistan border.

This encounter extended to Safiyan Jakhole village, resulting in the deaths of two terrorists and four policemen. The joint forces expanded their operations to the higher terrains of Kathua and Rajouri districts.

There was also a brief exchange of gunfire in the Billawar area of Kathua.

Reports indicate that five terrorists had crossed into Indian territory from across the international border, and this group is believed to be involved in the ongoing gunfights in Sanyal and Safiyan Jakhole.

Two terrorists were neutralized in the Safiyan Jakhole area, and operations continue to locate the remaining three.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a security review meeting in Srinagar on Tuesday, emphasizing the need to eliminate terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and restore peace in the region.
