Security Forces Engage in Encounter with Militants
An encounter has erupted in a remote village of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir, involving security forces and militants believed to be supported by Pakistan. Reports indicate that three militants linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed are currently engaged in this confrontation.
The clash began in the evening at the village of Kahog in Billawar, following intelligence reports about the presence of two to three militants, prompting security forces to initiate a search operation.
Joint Operations Underway
Authorities revealed that a joint operation was launched by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police along with other security forces on Wednesday evening, which led to the ongoing encounter. A senior security official stated, 'After a night of encirclement, the search operation has resumed to capture the hiding militants.'
Search Operations Intensified
Search operations are being conducted in the Dhan Parol-Kamadh Nala area. To apprehend the militants concealed in dense forests, aerial surveillance and additional forces have been deployed. Bhim Sen Tuti, the Inspector General of Police for the Jammu zone, mentioned in a post on social media, 'Despite the darkness, dense forest, and difficult terrain, the SOG is continuously engaging with the militants. A team from the CRPF is also participating in the joint operation.'
Casualties and Ongoing Gunfire
On Wednesday evening, security forces initiated a search operation in Kahog village based on reports of two to three militants in the area, which led to the exchange of gunfire. During the encounter, one security personnel sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and has been hospitalized. The IG reported in another social media post, 'The SOG encountered militants in the forest area of Kamadh Nala in Kathua.'
Prolonged Gunfire and Ongoing Operations
The exchange of fire between both sides lasted for over an hour before it ceased. Currently, there is no information regarding any casualties among the militants. Reports also indicate the activities of three groups of infiltrating militants in the area.
According to officials, the army, BSF, police, and CRPF have been conducting continuous search operations for the past month, identifying residents in border areas and increasing patrols along the international border in Samba and Kathua districts, as well as areas adjacent to Punjab. Ahead of Republic Day, a multi-layered security apparatus, including the BSF, border police, and village defense guards, has been put on high alert.
