Intense Drone and Missile Strikes Hit Ukraine as Casualties Rise

Devastating Attacks in Kyiv

On Thursday, Russia continued its relentless assault on Ukraine, marking the third consecutive day of extensive drone and missile strikes. The attacks resulted in the destruction of an apartment building in Kyiv, claiming the lives of nine individuals and injuring many others, as reported by local authorities. Additional strikes across the nation left over two dozen civilians wounded.

As the sun rose over Kyiv, the aftermath of the attack became evident in the Darnytsia district, nestled between a suburban forest and the Dnieper River. Smoke billowed from the wreckage of the nine-story apartment complex, where emergency responders worked tirelessly to rescue individuals trapped beneath the debris. The entrance of the building was severely damaged, hindering residents' escape.

Officials confirmed that all 18 apartments in the structure were obliterated. Among the deceased was a 12-year-old girl, as stated by Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, reported that nine people had lost their lives, with approximately 20 others still unaccounted for. In response to the tragedy, Klitschko has declared Friday a day of mourning.

Ukrainian officials pointed out that the timing of the attack coincided with U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to China. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized that both Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping possess the influence necessary to persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt his ongoing invasion of Ukraine, which has persisted for four years.
