Bihar's 2025 Assembly Elections Heat Up

The political landscape in Bihar is gearing up for the 2025 Assembly elections, with several candidates testing their fortunes for the first time. Meanwhile, some seasoned contenders have been in the electoral fray for decades. The Harnaut Assembly seat is set to witness a fierce contest this time around. Located in Nalanda district, this constituency falls within the Lok Sabha area. Voting for the first phase is scheduled for November 6, with results expected on November 14, 2025.

JDU's Stronghold

The Janata Dal United (JDU), led by Nitish Kumar, has maintained a significant presence in the Harnaut constituency. This seat is notably associated with Kumar, as his party has won in seven out of the last eight Assembly elections, excluding the 1977 and 1980 polls. In the 2020 elections, JDU's Hari Narayan Singh achieved a remarkable victory, defeating LJP's Mamta Devi, while Congress secured a distant third place. Thus, Harnaut is often regarded as Kumar's bastion, with no other party, apart from independent candidates, having claimed victory here.

Candidates in the Fray

For the upcoming elections, JDU has fielded its sitting MLA, Hari Narayan Singh. In contrast, Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraj Party has placed its trust in Kamlesh Paswan, who hails from the Paswan community. The Congress Party has nominated Arun Kumar Bind for this seat. Singh's candidacy is particularly noteworthy as it represents a strategic move by JDU, emphasizing organizational strength and experience. This will mark Singh's 13th appearance in the electoral arena.
