Intense Clash at India-Myanmar Border: Security Forces Engage Militants in Arunachal Pradesh

Security Forces Encounter Militants in Arunachal Pradesh
Itanagar: A confrontation occurred between militants and security personnel in the Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh, which borders Myanmar, according to officials.
A defense spokesperson reported late Thursday that security forces initiated a patrol in the Pongchau Circle area after receiving credible intelligence regarding the movement of militants from an unidentified group in the region.
While navigating through dense forests, the security team spotted suspicious individuals and issued a challenge.
The militants responded with heavy gunfire from high-caliber weapons, prompting a strong counterattack from the security forces.
During the fierce exchange, the militants retreated across the International Border into Myanmar.
Despite a thorough search of the area by security forces, the militants successfully escaped into the dense forest cover on the other side of the border.
In a related incident on May 14, ten militants were killed during a confrontation with the Assam Rifles in Chandel district, southern Manipur, which also shares a border with Myanmar.
Details from the May 14 encounter revealed that Assam Rifles personnel were heavily fired upon by suspected militants near New Samtal village along the Myanmar border.
The troops displayed remarkable composure and tactical precision, leading to the neutralization of ten individuals dressed in camouflage.
Initial evaluations indicate that these individuals were involved in cross-border insurgent activities, and efforts are ongoing to verify their identities.
A comprehensive search operation in the area resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and supplies from New Samtal village, located 130 km from the state capital and sparsely populated.
The recovered items included seven AK-47 rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, an M4 rifle, and four single-barrel breech-loading rifles, along with ammunition and other military supplies.
The situation along the India-Myanmar border remains under close observation, with security forces maintaining a strong presence and collaborating with local administration and intelligence agencies to uphold peace and stability in the area.
Four northeastern states—Arunachal Pradesh (520 km), Manipur (398 km), Nagaland (215 km), and Mizoram (510 km)—share a 1,643-km unfenced border with Myanmar.
