Intense Anti-Terror Operation in Kishtwar Uncovers Major Hideout

Discovery of a Well-Stocked Bunker

In the high mountains of Kishtwar, terrorists linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) had meticulously planned to remain hidden for an extended period. They had amassed a significant stockpile of supplies in a robust bunker, carefully concealed behind stone formations, indicating a long-term hiding strategy. Following a thorough anti-terror operation, the military successfully uncovered this bunker, although the operation resulted in the martyrdom of a commando and injuries to several others.

Details of the Bunker Contents

Reports indicate that the bunker contained at least 50 packets of noodles, a full crate of tomatoes and potatoes, 15 different spices, two bags of 10 kg basmati rice, lentils, wheat, and millet, along with two large LPG cylinders, a burner, and dry wood. Tragically, one paratrooper who was critically injured during the gunfire succumbed to his injuries. The search operation led to the discovery of the suspected terrorist hideout filled with rations.

Ongoing Search Operations

Authorities suspect that two to three terrorists associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed are hiding in the area. The operation, which was paused late Sunday night, resumed early Monday morning. Security forces initiated contact with the terrorists, leading to an operation in the Sonar village near Mandral-Singhpora in the Chhatru region. During the encounter, eight soldiers were injured, primarily due to shrapnel from a sudden grenade attack.

Challenges Faced by Security Forces

Officials reported that the challenging terrain, dense vegetation, and steep slopes significantly hampered visibility and movement, necessitating a temporary halt to the operation overnight. In a post on social media, the military's White Knight Corps confirmed that Operation Trashi-I is ongoing in the Chhatru area. The post stated that the cordon has been tightened and the search operation's scope expanded. Police and CRPF personnel are deployed in the area to maintain control.

Coordinated Efforts to Capture Terrorists

Multiple teams from the army, police, and paramilitary forces are conducting searches in the area with the assistance of drones and sniffer dogs, establishing a tight security perimeter to prevent the terrorists from escaping. Meanwhile, one of the injured soldiers, Havildar Gajendra Singh, passed away while receiving treatment at a military hospital in Jammu on the night of January 18-19.

Tribute to the Fallen Soldier

The army paid tribute to Havildar Gajendra Singh, stating that the General Officer Commanding of the White Knight Corps and all ranks honor him for his supreme sacrifice during the ongoing Operation Trashi-I in the Singhpora area. They praised his indomitable courage, valor, and selfless dedication to duty, expressing solidarity with his grieving family during this profound time of loss.
