Inspiring Journey of a Family-Owned Dhaba in Jammu
A Story of Resilience and Determination
It is often said that no task is too small or too big; what matters is the passion to achieve something. Hard work and dedication should be ingrained in your very being. This is exemplified by Mamta Sharma from the Billawar area of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Overcoming Adversity After Husband's Job Loss
When Mamta's husband lost his job, the family faced severe financial difficulties. However, she refused to give up. Instead, she worked hard and turned her culinary skills into a source of income. Today, not only does her family enjoy three meals a day, but they also help feed several middle-class and underprivileged families.
Her husband previously worked at a polytechnic college under a government scheme, earning ₹7,000 monthly. After losing his job, the family struggled to meet their basic needs, including paying rent and supporting their children's education. Rather than succumbing to despair, Mamta proposed starting a dhaba, leveraging her cooking skills.
Innovative Dhaba Setup in Their Car
The couple began searching for a suitable location for their dhaba but faced challenges due to financial constraints. Then, Mamta had a brilliant idea: why not set up a dhaba in their Alto car? They managed to acquire an Alto and launched their 'Vishnu Dhaba'.
Located in the Bikram Chowki area of Jammu, this dhaba serves delicious and healthy homemade meals at very affordable prices—₹50 for a full plate and ₹30 for a half plate. Initially, they earned only ₹100 a day, but everything changed when they parked their car under a tree, attracting customers with their tasty food and low prices.
A Growing Popularity for Affordable Meals
In just a month and a half, Mamta's 'Vishnu Dhaba' has gained significant popularity in the Top Sher Khaniya area. It operates daily from noon to 4 PM, with Mamta, her husband, and their two children preparing meals from early morning. The menu includes 'Rajma', 'Chana Dal', 'Chole Dal', 'Kadi', 'Amble', rice, pickles, and curry.
A Message of Passion and Community Support
Neeraj Sharma, Mamta's husband, emphasizes the importance of having a passion for work. With determination, one can earn both respect and wealth from anywhere. They take pride in the fact that while they are feeding others, they are also providing for their own family.
